Ready to rock?

Go ahead and mark your calendars for April 28 for the nearly annual SoulQuench fundraising auction. This year the funds are split between our team headed to the Dominican Republic and The Bentley Group.
In short, The Bentley Group helps fund medical necessities for under-insured and non-insured patients that need help with the visit to tests to prescriptions.

Things have started coming in for the auction. And here are some who have teamed up with us so far this year . . .
-Barn Fly Trading – http://barnflytrading.com/
-ECOzip – http://ecozip-bags.com/
-InPop Records – http://www.inpop.com/
and
-VeggieTales – http://veggietales.com/
(You might be able to see the stuff here . . . http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150503999972001.367440.715047000&type=1 )
Can’t wait to see who else joins the party!

between a rock and a hard place.

Gary Miller, at JABC, has been talking about the book “Do Hard Things.” Discussing and encouraging students to go beyond what is expected of them. The idea that as students you aren’t expected to do hard things. That you’re expected to take it easy. Going beyond what you’re expected is difficult. To take a stand for the what you believe is hard.

I sit here today and watch Lion King with Levi. Simba’s return to Pride Rock wasn’t something easy. He had to come to a realization of who he really was. He had to come to grips with his past and confront it. He had to fight Scar to regain his kingship. It wasn’t easy. But to protect those around him, it’s what he had to do.

Yeah maybe I’m stretching the story a little. Maybe I’m taking Miller’s lessons a bit out of context. But I think the lessons still remain.
1. To do hard things you have to come to a realization of you are. Who you really are and who you were created to be.
2. Which will bring you to a confrontation of your past. Realize that it is in the past. “Put your behind in the past.” as Pumba said “put your past behind ya” and learn from it. Take the next step forward to what that hard thing is for your life.
3. There will be a fight when you decide to do hard things. Not a physical fight. But a fight against yourself, the things you’ve always done, and from spiritual attacks.

Are you willing to protect those around you? Are you willing to do something bigger than you’re expected? Are you willing to do hard things?

auction partner

So this morning started out with some disappointment. Care to Learn, the group we were trying to work with for the auction, wrote and shared that they wouldn’t be a part of our fund raising efforts this year. I’m still unsure why. But it’s happened during previous auctions.

Wrote a second group somewhat local and somewhat like a group we’ve worked with previously. Haven’t heard back yet from them.

And just a few minutes ago received a call from an employee with a third group. They would like to be involved and “are excited” about such an event.  Very excited that they called.

Our partner for 2012′s auction is The Bentley Fund.  The Bentley Fund was created to help cover medical costs and medication purchases for patients who struggle to afford them. Excited to be a partner!

Now . . . who/what are you chasing?

Wondering who’s reading

Hope you’ve been praying for SoulQuench this year!
SoulQuench: The Chase starts July 5 – 8 for camp. I’m already stoked about what God is going to do in each of our lives this year.

Aaron Decker will be back to lead worship and Adam Stoddard will be bringing the Word.

What does your chase look like right now? Are you chasing or being chased?
What are you doing to try and make a difference? What are you willing to do? Are you willing to do something hard? Different?

May God speak deeply into your lives!

Another year

So I’m going to try and post more often on the site this year. We’ll see how well I do.

First off, I hope to see you guys at YouthQuake. Give one of us a shout. Say hey. Give us a squeeze. Buy a soda. Something. Just make sure if you’re there, we know you are. ;)

Another thought. We’ve just scheduled our fund raising auction for this 2012. And just like last year, we’ll divide the monies made between a selected group and the SoulQuench mission team.

Speaking of mission team, our first meeting is being hosted by JABC on January 16 at 6:30 pm. Hope you’ve been thinking about going.
